ADMISSION INFORMATION
FOR THE REGULAR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS IN 2023

Petrovietnam University (PVU) is a special public university under the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) that enrolls students at full-time university degrees.

A. Field symbol: PVU

B. Target: 100 students

C. Admission method:

1. Admission based on high school exam results:

(Register according to the admission instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training)

(*) Major code is used when registering for admission using the Admissions Portal of the Ministry of Education and Training.

2. Admission based on the results of the Competency Assessment exam of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam National University Hanoi;

3. Admission based on the results of the Thinking Assessment exam of Hanoi University of Science and Technology;

4. Admission High school transcripts:

- Students currently studying in grade 12 have an average score of at least 6.5 (on a 10-point scale) over the 5 semesters (taking into account learning results in Math, Physics, Chemistry and English and their results 2nd semester of grade 12 when considering admission).

- Candidates have graduated from high school with a 3-year average of at least 6.5 (on a 10-point scale) (taking into account academic results in Math, Physics, Chemistry and English).

5. Direct admission: Direct admission for students studying full-time university in the science - engineering - technology field.

D. Conditions for studying the joint program

+ All candidates for the joint program (2 + 3) must have their English proficiency tested by PVU before entering the preparatory English semester and before entering the main program at PVU. Students before entering the main program (61 credits for the Petroleum Engineering program, 63 credits for the Chemical Engineering program and 56 credits for the Earth Science/Geography major program Petroleum, at PVU) must reach level 4 English proficiency according to the 6-level Foreign Language Competency Framework or equivalent.

+ Conditions before transferring to study at NMT, USA: Students enrolled in the joint program (2 + 3) must have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for the number of credits studied at PVU of at least 2.5 on the scale. score 4.0 and IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 76 or higher.

E. Registration and admission time:

1. For admission based on high school exam results: According to the admission schedule of the Ministry of Education and Training.

2. For the admission plan based on the results of Capacity Assessment of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam National University Hanoi and Thinking Assessment of Hanoi University of Science and Technology: According to the admission plan of Petrovietnam University (from April – September 2023).

3. For the admission option of high school transcripts and direct admission of students to universities: Application period is from February 1, 2023, candidates register for admission according to the following steps:

+ Step 2: Submit application for registration in one of the 2 forms below:

- Submit directly to the school.

F. Admission application documents:

1. Notarized copy of one (01) of the following documents:

• Certificate of competency exam results of VNUHCM
• Certification of VNU's competency exam results
• Certificate of thinking assessment test results of Hanoi University of Science and Technology
• A confirmation or transcript with academic results from 05 or 06 semesters of high school

2. Temporary high school graduation certificate (after receiving high school exam results) or High school graduation certificate (copy) for candidates graduating from high school in 2022 and earlier.

3. Copy (not notarized) of IELTS, TOEFLibt certificate (if any);

4. For university students: Documents include Confirmation that the student is studying at the university; Academic records (copy); University transcript (up to the time of registration); High school graduation certificate (copy); International English certificate (if any). In case you are a full-time university student, PVU does not require these procedures.

5. A stamped envelope clearly stating the candidate's contact address and phone number so that the School can notify the admission results.

H. Tuition fees (expected)

• Petroleum Engineering: About 77,000,000.00 VND/student for each year of study at PVU (including preparatory English tuition) and about 9,660 USD/student for each year of study at NMT.
• Chemical Engineering: About 79,000,000.00 VND/student for each year of study at PVU (including preparatory English tuition) and about 10,239 USD/student for each year of study at NMT.
• Earth Sciences/Petroleum Geology major: About 72,000,000.00 VND/student for each year of study at PVU (including preparatory English tuition) and about 10,278 USD/student for each year of study at NMT.

Note: when the School is allowed to be autonomous, tuition will be regulated according to the approved autonomy project.

J. How to submit English certificate to convert points

Candidates send a copy (not notarized) of the certificate (immediately after registering for admission to PVU) to the school's Training Department at the address as in the admission proposal, on the copy write the High School Exam Honor Roll Number. 2023 (if any) and CCCD number (or CCCD number temporarily issued when taking the 2023 high school exam) or Passport number. This information is used to determine the correct candidates applying to the school.

ADMISSION METHODS

PetroVietnam University (Admission Code: PVU) recruites student for undergraduate and international joining programs.

Undergraduate Programs (Geological Engineering-GE, Petroleum Engineering-PE and Chemical Engineering-CE): 100 students (Choosing major on the end of the first academic year with student expectation).

International joining programs (between PVU and NMT-New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology) (PVU-NMT program): 45 students (Earth Science/Petroleum Geology, Petroleum Engineering-PE and Chemical Engineering-CE).

A.Recruiting Methods

1.Based on the national high school exam 2022: 80 students (PVU undergraduate programs) and 30 students (International joining program PVU-NMT). Registration bases on directory of MOET.

2. Directly recruitment

• PVU undergraduate programs: 05 students basing on MOET admission regulation
• PVU-NMT program: Directly recruiting students from other universities of technology and engineering and PVU undergraduate programs who want to become PVU-NMT students

3. Recruitment basing on results of potential tests of HCM national university, Hanoi national university and Hanoi university of science and technology

• PVU undergraduate programs: 20 students (for 03 programs GE, PE and CE, and sub-sectors first year and student aspirations)
• PVU-NMT program: 05 students/program (common to all admission methoeds based on high school academic results).

4. Recruitment basing on grade results of high school academic years (only for PVU-NMT program): 05 students/program-common to all admission methods based on the results of capacity assessment

+ High school pupils who meet the one of 02 requirements as below:

• Students graduate from high school with a minimum grade point average of 6.5 (on the scalescore 10) (considering the combination of Math, Physics, Chemistry and English).
• All applicants for the joint program (2 + 3) must be examined by PVU English proficiency before entering the preparatory English semester and before entering Study the main program at PVU. Students before entering the program main course (61 credits for Petroleum Engineering program, 63 credits for program in Chemical Engineering and 56 credits in the Left Sciences program soil/Petroleum Geology major, at PVU) must reach level 4 English proficiency according to the 6-level foreign language competency framework or equivalent.
• PVU-NMT fresh students will be tested english before pre-english semester and before the first semester. PVU-NMT students have had 4-level english (national 6-level english frame) before the first semester of PVU-NMT program.

+ Requirement for continuing study at NMT (transfer to NMT): PVU-NMT students have cumulative GPA of the first period (study at PVU): 2.5/4, IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 76 or more.

B. Detail requirements and procedure:

1. Recruiting based on the results of the national high school exam 2022

+ Subjects: All candidates with 2022 high school graduation exam results

+ How to register: Candidates register to take the 2022 high school graduation exam and post Sign up for admission to majors in the regular university system and the American affiliated system Vietnam Petroleum University. Register according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Department of Education and Training and high schools for students in grade 12 and past candidates graduated from high school last year. (according to the Registration Instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training).

+ Admission score: is the total score of 3 exams/subjects of the combination of subjects considered for admission High school graduation exam results 2022, without multiplication coefficient, plus priority pointsobject, area (if any). Admission scores must meet the minimum score according to regulations regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

+ In case of majors with English subjects in the combination of admission subjects: History only Use English test results and score conversion table from the English Certificate IELTS and TOEFL ibt of the school.

+ In case the industry has many combinations of subjects for admission: The standard admission score is the same for all admission subject combinations. Therefore, when adjusting aspirations,

On August 1, 2022, in Ba Ria City, Petrovietnam University (PVU) signed a cooperation agreement with the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT, USA), a leading STEM institution in the US.

The visit and meeting at PVU were led by Dr. Stephen G. Wells, President of NMT.

Representing PVU at the signing ceremony were Dr. Phan Minh Quoc Binh - President of PVU; Dr. Le Quoc Phong - Head of the Training Department; Dr. Vu Minh Hung - Head of the Basic Science Department; Dr. Pham Bao Ngoc - Head of the Petroleum Faculty; Dr. Truong Thanh Tuan - Deputy Head of the Foreign Affairs & Science and Technology Department, along with leaders of various departments and centers of the university.

Stephen G. Wells and other notable guests from NMT, marking the third meeting between the leaders of NMT and PVU and the second held at PVU. He highlighted PVU's achievements and the successful implementation of the cooperation agreement previously signed between PVU and NMT.
Dr. Phan Minh Quoc Binh mentioned that in April 2020, PVU was accredited by the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training, affirming its compliance with Vietnamese higher education standards. Following this achievement, in December 2021, PVU successfully accredited three undergraduate programs (Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Geological Engineering) according to the ABET standards in the US, making it the first university in Vietnam to have three ABET-accredited programs in these fields.

Dr. Stephen G. Wells, in his speech, praised PVU's impressive achievements and noted PVU's significant growth among NMT's Vietnamese partners. He emphasized NMT's eagerness for closer cooperation with PVU in the future, given the similarities between the two institutions. Dr. Wells also shared NMT's recent transformations, including the development of online learning models and resources, and the adaptation of teaching methodologies for online education. He highlighted NMT's high completion rate (82%), research achievements, and support for international students.

In 2019, PVU and NMT had previously signed a 2+3 joint undergraduate training contract in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Earth/Geological Sciences. Following the success of this undergraduate program, in 2022, PVU and NMT further agreed to a 1+1 joint Master's program in Petroleum Engineering, where students spend one year at PVU and one year at NMT. The Master's degree awarded by NMT offers special tuition rates for PVU students, and high-achieving students in the program may receive scholarships covering tuition and living expenses during their studies at NMT. Additionally, the program provides opportunities for students to work in the US and pursue PhD research at NMT.

The event concluded with exchanges, presentations, and a commemorative photo session, marking the strengthened collaboration between PVU and NMT.

On July 21st, in Da Nang City, Petrovietnam University (PVU) and Duy Tan University (DTU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on collaboration in training and scientific research.

This partnership aims to boost the development strategy and enhance the stature of both institutions, contributing to higher education and the development of high-quality human resources, thereby aiding in the country's socio-economic growth.

Attending the signing ceremony from PVU were Dr. Phan Minh Quoc Binh - President of the University, Dr. Le Quoc Phong - Head of the Training Department, Mr. Nguyen Thai Dat - Head of the Organizational Administration Department, Mr. Chau Khieu Minh - Director of the Advanced Training Center, Dr. Truong Thanh Tuan - Deputy Head of Foreign Affairs and Science & Technology, and Dr. Duong Chi Trung - Head of the Petroleum Refining Department. DTU was represented by Dr. Le Nguyen Bao - President of the University, Dr. Tran Nhat Tan - Vice President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Dac Binh - Dean of the School of Technology, Dr. Truong Tien Vu - Head of Science and Technology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hieu - Head of the High-Tech Research and Development Institute, Dr. Nguyen Duc Hien - Head of the Business Cooperation Department, along with leaders of various departments, faculties, staff, and lecturers.
Dr. Phan Minh Quoc Binh expressed his pleasure and excitement about the collaboration with DTU and emphasized the importance of this cooperation for the development of both PVU and DTU. He extended a deep gratitude to DTU's leadership for their support and eagerness to foster this collaboration. Dr. Binh hoped that the detailed terms of the MOU signed at the ceremony would soon be implemented, particularly enhancing scientific research cooperation.
Dr. Binh also introduced PVU, located in Ba Ria City, the heart of Vietnam's oil industry, and its continuous modernization and digital transformation to align with the energy transition trends in training sectors. In December 2021, PVU successfully conducted an ABET accreditation for three programs: Geological Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, and Chemical Engineering, receiving high evaluations for all three programs. PVU is committed to training high-quality human resources, linking education with scientific research and business production, and ensuring the sustainable development of Vietnam's oil industry and national energy sector.

Dr. Le Nguyen Bao, President of DTU, thanked Dr. Phan Minh Quoc Binh and PVU's delegation for their visit and work at DTU. He expressed his happiness about the officially signed MOU, opening many opportunities for cooperation and development between the two universities. He also highly regarded PVU's training model after viewing an introductory video about PVU and the discussions with PVU's delegation.

PVU and DTU leadership formally signed a 5-year cooperation MOU, covering the period 2022-2027. The MOU specifies collaboration in training, scientific research, education quality assurance and accreditation, innovative entrepreneurship, and technology transfer.

The agreement between PVU and DTU will also contribute to diversifying PVU's disciplines in the future. The signing ceremony concluded successfully, paving the way for the development of both PVU and DTU, and opening up new opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions.

Recently, Petrovietnam University (PVU) solemnly organized a ceremony in Ba Ria City to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), part of the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City. The event was attended by prominent educational and government figures including Ms. Ngo Thi Minh – Deputy Minister of Education and Training, representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training, local government officials, and members from Petrovietnam.

PVU was represented by Dr. Nguyen Anh Duc – Chairman of the University Council and Director of the Vietnam Petroleum Institute, Dr. Phan Minh Quoc Binh - President of PVU, along with teachers and students. HCMUT's delegation included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong – President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Dat – Head of the International Relations Office, Dr. Pham Tan Thi – Head of Science, Technology and Project Department, and other leaders from various departments.

HCMUT

HCMUT, established in October 1957 as the Phu Tho National Center of Technology, is the oldest technical university in Southern Vietnam, renowned for its engineering and technology programs.

(PVU)

PVU, established by the Prime Minister's Decision No. 2157/QD-TTg on November 25, 2010, as a special public university under Petrovietnam, is a leading petroleum-specialized university in Vietnam and the first in the country with ABET-accredited programs in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Geological Engineering.

During the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong commended PVU for achieving official ABET accreditation for its three programs and successfully holding a graduation ceremony for its 7th batch of students and an inauguration for the 11th batch.

The MOU between PVU and HCMUT focuses on collaboration in scientific research and technology transfer, training, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Specific agreements include establishing joint research groups, organizing conferences on mutual areas of interest, collaborating on research projects for Petrovietnam and other partners, and offering scientific research and technology transfer services. In education, both universities will cooperate in equivalent course training, international sponsorship project development, faculty exchange, quality assurance, joint student activities, and training services as per business needs. They also plan to develop an innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The agreement aims to enhance the comprehensive, long-term relationship between PVU and HCMUT, leveraging each institution's strengths for mutual benefit and development.

The ceremony concluded with the exchange of gifts and a commemorative photo session, symbolizing the start of a fruitful collaboration between PVU and HCMUT. Based on the MOU, both universities will develop annual cooperation plans for the next five years and jointly evaluate and agree on specific activities for the following year.
