In the recent years, marine pollution has becoming worse, affecting negatively socio-economic development and many people’s livelihood. Therefore, marine environmental protection is an urgent task today. With this in mind, PetroVietnam University students took actions to spread the message of "Protecting the sea" to local people in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.
In October 2020, participating in the Coastal Painting Project, PVU students and volunteers drew propaganda pictures along 3 km of Phuoc Hai embarkment, showing love for the ocean and raising environmental protection awareness among local people.
In addition, on October 11, PVU cooperated with their partners and Green Trips VietNam to organize an environmental clean-up program with the theme "Where hearts beat as one for environment” at Doi Nhai beach, Vung Tau city. The event attracted more than 300 volunteers from schools, private organizations, businesses and team clubs in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. They cleaned and collected garbage along the coast. After more than 3 hours, the volunteers collected about 900 bags of household trash washed ashore on Doi Nhai beach and sent for treatment.
The Head of Program Organizing Committee, Mr. Le Thai Hien – a PVU alumnus, said: “With the support of PVU teachers and students, I have contacted Green Trips Vietnam and other institutions to jointly organize the program "Sunday Clean - up". Such programs will encourage young people to act for the community, participate in environmental protection, and respond to climate change. We hope to contribute to making the living environment clean and friendly, stimulating tourism in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province."
It is worth noting that "Sunday Clean - up 2020" events were held on the same day in 5 countries: Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, USA, and Vietnam. In Vietnam, 8 provinces took part in the event, including Ba Ria – Vung Tau.
